A delegation of three doctors from Genertec Medical 3201 Hospital affiliated with China General Technology (Group) Holding Co., Ltd. has joined the 37th Chinese medical aid team as of May 2022 to provide the Sudanese people with free medical consultations and healthcare services.

Sudan is a northeastern African country with limited medical resources. Statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that hospital beds per 10,000 persons in the country number only eight.

During the past several months, the Chinese medical aid team has fulfilled their mission, consolidated traditional friendship between China and Africa, and showcased positive image of Chinese medical workers.

Ding Jianlong, a member of the Chinese medical aid team and specialist in hepatobiliary surgery at 3201 Hospital, recently successfully performed a surgical operation for a patient aged 65 and became a hit in local media.

This Sudanese patient was found with a lump in his belly and showed such symptoms as abdominal distension, sleep disorder, breathlessness and the disappearance of appetite when he approached the Chinese medical aid team at Omdurman Friendship Hospital in Khartoum.

Local hospitals and doctors had refused to provide him with an operation because of high risk and huge difficulties.

After learning of his complicated conditions, Ding and other members of the Chinese medical aid team held an emergency meeting, involving the departments of general surgery, anesthesia and imaging as well as domestic experts in person or via video link, to ensure the success of any prospective surgical operation.

Ding and his teammates successfully carried out an operation for the Sudanese patient, though there were no advanced medical facilities available.

The clothes of Ding and all other doctors were soaked with sweat when they completed the surgical operation of about six hours.

At last, both relatives of the Sudanese patient and local medical workers gave a thumbs-up to the Chinese medical aid team for their smooth execution of the operation. In addition, the head of Omdurman Friendship Hospital also spoke highly of the outstanding performance of the Chinese doctors.

The Sudanese patient and his family expressed deep gratitude to Ding and his teammates with a handwritten letter when he fully recovered two weeks later.

Meanwhile, the Chinese medial aid team is also committed to imparting its professional knowledge and skills to local counterparts.

Zhou Jun, also a member of the Chinese medical aid team and a doctor from 3201 Hospital, received a phone call late at night this January that an experienced Chinese medical worker like him was in urgent need to support the completion of a laparoscopic surgery.

It is still difficult for Sudanese doctors to accomplish advanced operations because of the shortage of relevant medical equipment and resources.

Aisha is a Sudanese gynecological specialist and has been to China for further education. She told Zhou that her Sudanese compatriots at Omdurman Friendship Hospital had never used relevant medical facilities or conducted such surgical operations.

Therefore, Zhou took great pains to review professional knowledge and practices and explain to local medical workers about all-round procedures relating to laparoscopic surgery in advance.

With the support of Zhou, all three sets of surgical operations went smoothly.

The efforts of Zhou and the Chinese medical aid team earned high acclaim from their Sudanese counterparts and patients.

In the years ahead, the Chinese medical aid team will continue to bring more benefit to local people with concrete actions.
