China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has completed drilling and cementing of a preliminary exploration well to a current depth of 9,026 meters, the deepest of its kind in Asia.
Located in Yanting County, Mianyang in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, the Pengshen-6 well is a key pre-prospecting well in the Penglai gas field.
Under the condition of extreme depths, extreme temperatures, ultra-high pressure levels and high levels of sulfur, various kinds of technologies and a new type of well structure were developed and designed by PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company and CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Limited, both subsidiaries of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), to realize all-round and whole-process accurate control of the engineering.
Progress of the Pengshen-6 well will accelerate the exploration and development of conventional natural gas in the Penglai gas field, and lay a solid foundation for smooth implementation of the 10,000-meter exploration well in the Sichuan Basin.
