China Delivers World's Largest Shallow Waterway 4th-Generation LNG Carrier

DAPENG PRINCESS, the world's largest fourth-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for shallow water, was delivered on Feb 18.

Jointly developed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., both subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the carrier is 239 meters long, and 36.6 meters wide. It is capable of carrying 80,000 cubic meters of LNG.

The carrier has been registered in the China Classification Society and American Bureau of Shipping.

DAPENG PRINCESS has a load draft of less than 8.5 meters, the shallowest of its kind in the world and enabling it to navigate both rivers and shallow seas. It can travel down the Yangtze River and Pearl River basins even during the dry season.

What's more, the carrier has outstanding fast performance and course stability as well as high safety and reliability.

Equipped with double main engines, double propellers for propulsion and a double rudder system for maneuvering, the carrier is tops in navigation and maneuvering abilities of its kind in the world.

According to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., it has received nearly 50 orders for LNG carriers, sixteen of which are scheduled to be under production this year with the number expected to increase to 24 in 2024.
