An agreement on jointly building a net zero carbon demonstration village was inked between China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Sanmen County, Zhejiang Province on Feb 9.
It is expected to be the country's first net-zero carbon demonstration village neighboring a nuclear power plant.

Located at the tunnel entrance area of the Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant, Sanhe Village has experienced changes in the past two years.
Building the net zero carbon village is an exploration by the local government and a central state-owned enterprise of promoting rural vitalization. The project is expected to give full play to the advantages of the two sides.
The project will make full use of CNNC's new energy industrial advantage to build an agriculture-solar complementary facility in an ecological lotus pond covering more than 200 mu, which will bring profit to the village collective.
In addition, a rooftop-distributed photovoltaic project is to be implemented throughout the village.
With the help of CNNC, the former idle land in the village has turned into a "nuclear power sharing farm", and export of local agricultural products like oranges, chickens and ducks to other regions is now possible. In addition, many villagers are now working in the Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant.
