Construction of the fish pass facility of the Jinchuan Hydropower Station over the Dadu River in Southwest China's Sichuan Province has been started, kicking off construction of Asia's longest fishway integrating a man-made tunnel and a natural river section.
With a total designed length of 5.02 kilometers, the fish pass facility is a natural-functioning fishway built on the river and incorporating a long-distance tunnel.
The project is expected to support the river's environmental protection, maintain biodiversity of its aquatic creatures and promote green development in affected areas.
China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy) is responsible for the project.
Over the years, China Energy has highly valued protection of the aquatic creatures in the Dadu River and maintained them in an ecological balance.
The Jinchuan Hydropower Station of China Energy started research on natural-functioning fishway technologies in 2019 and has launched several studies focusing on related issues.
The company kept making innovations in fishway design and has played a role in maintaining diversity, stability and sustainability of the local ecological system.
