The mother ship is 88.5 meters long, 14 meters wide and 6.1 meters deep. With a designed displacement of about 2,100 metric tons, it has a maximum speed of 18 knots and an economical speed of 13 knots.
It has a spacious aft deck that can accommodate various instruments for air, sea, and underwater observation and is capable of performing comprehensive marine survey tasks such as marine mapping, ocean observation, offshore inspection, and survey sampling.
As the world's first smart marine research ship with autonomous navigation and remote control capabilities, Zhu Hai Yun has received the first smart ship certificate issued by the China Classification Society.
Its design and construction embody the concepts of green and smart, unmanned system research support and future sense.
Most of the devices equipped on the ship, including the power, propulsion, intelligent, positioning and investigation support systems, were domestically developed.
Development of the ship was presided over by the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou). China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) was the general contractor. CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited was responsible for the vessel’s construction.
