A liquefied natural gas (LNG) ro-ro ship capable of transporting 7,000 vehicles was delivered to Nippon Yusen Kaisha Group (NYK) on Jan 31.

NYK ordered four such ro-ro ships from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co., Ltd.

The ship is 199 meters long and 38 meters wide. It has 12 decks for car parking and four removable decks.

As the latest-generation LNG-powered large car carrier, it is green and low-carbon, energy-saving and highly-efficient, environmentally-friendly and intrinsically safe.

It is powered by LNG and adopts various environmentally-friendly technologies that can reduce emission of 99 percent of sulfur oxides, 86 percent of oxynitride and 50 percent of methane.

In addition, the ship is equipped with electric-LNG hybrid technology, which reduces the load of the main engine and generator through battery support, which in turn improves fuel efficiency. By using the hybrid technology, the ship can also cut down emission of at least 40 percent of carbon dioxide.
