A ceremony has been held to commence construction of the Mekong Bridge and the connection highway project in Kratie, Cambodia.
Contracted by Shanghai Construction Group (SCG), the project will connect the east and west banks of the Mekong River in Kratie.
With a total length of 1,761 meters, the bridge is to be the longest bridge in Cambodia built by a Chinese enterprise.
The project includes construction of the Mekong Bridge in Kratie, the connection highway and the branch lines.
Once operational, the bridge is expected to make work and life more convenient on both sides of the Mekong River, and will promote transportation of goods, and trade and investment activities in the northeastern provinces of Cambodia. It will also contribute to development of local agriculture, the processing industry and tourism.
In addition to the bridge, 19 other roads in six provinces are also scheduled. With a total length of 120.05 kilometers, the projects are intended to improve local road infrastructure, drive regional economic and social development and make it easier for local people to travel.
SCG has participated in more than 30 infrastructure projects in Cambodia since 2004, which included nearly 2,000 kilometers of road, more than 100 bridges, one urban overpass and one container port.
