4 Hydropower Stations Over Downstream of Jinsha River Generate Over 1 Trillion KWh of Power

Updated: February 07, 2023

The Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba cascade hydropower stations over the downstream of the Jinsha River have generated more than 1 trillion kilowatt-hours of power, according to China Three Gorges Corporation on Jan 21, 2023.

The output equals that produced by burning about 300 million metric tons of standard coal and a reduction of about 830 million tons of carbon dioxide.

In late December 2022, China completed the construction of the world's largest clean energy corridor with the completion of the Baihetan Hydropower Station. Equipped with 110 generator units, the clean energy corridor now has a total installed capacity of nearly 71.7 million kilowatt.

The four hydropower stations over the downstream of the Jinsha River have an installed capacity of 46.46 million kW and an average power output of about 190 billion kWh per year, equaling that produced by burning 57.29 million tons of standard coal and eliminating 157.32 million tons of carbon dioxide.

They have played a key role in optimizing China's energy structure, promoting energy conservation and the reduction of emissions, and boosting economic and social development. They have also contributed to the harmonious development between man and nature and provided green power for the Chinese path to modernization.

As major projects for the implementation of the country's west-east power transmission program, the four hydropower stations over the downstream of the Jinsha River are mainly used in power generation, flood control and shipping, and are a part of regional economic and social development.

During construction of the four stations, a series of technical difficulties were overcome and 34 world records of their kinds were created, seeing China's hydropower engineering and relevant equipment manufacturing take lead in the world.
