Baihetan-Zhejiang UHV DC Power Transmission Line Put into Operation

Updated: January 11, 2023

The Baihetan-Zhejiang ±800-kilovolt ultra-high voltage (UHV) direct current (DC) power transmission line was put into operation on Dec 30, 2022, supporting high-quality development of East China's Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.

A key project of China's west-east power transmission program, the Baihetan-Zhejiang UHV DC project starts from the Baihetan Converter Station in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, and ends at the Zhejiang North Converter Station in Hangzhou of Zhejiang.

With a total investment of 29.9 billion yuan (about $4.36 billion), the 2,121-kilometer power transmission line passes Chongqing Municipality and Sichuan, Hubei, Anhui and Zhejiang provinces, and has a rated transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts.

The Baihetan-Zhejiang power transmission line is the second channel to send power generated in Sichuan to Zhejiang. It is expected to promote clean, low-carbon and green development of the energy, boost the coordinated development of Sichuan and Zhejiang provinces, and push forward innovative development of UHV DC transmission technology.

State Grid Corporation of China is responsible for construction and operation of the project.
