New Generator Unit of China-Built Power Station in Iraq Starts Operation

Updated: January 09, 2023

The No. 2 generator unit of the 2×630 Salah Al-Din power station in Iraq has been put into operation after 720 hours of reliability testing. It is the second generator unit of the power station to be made operable this year.

Located about 186 kilometers north of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, the Salah Al-Din power station is built with two 630-megawatt oil-fired thermal generator units, and is the largest single-unit capacity power station project that is still under construction in the country.

Construction of the project started on Aug 14, 2012.

As a modern power plant designed, manufactured and built by a Chinese company, the Salah Al-Din power station is a symbol of friendship between China and Iraq.

China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. is responsible for the project.
