CNOOC Has Supplied Over 1.1 Billion Cubic Meters Of Gas To Macao

Updated: January 03, 2023

As of Dec 19, 2022, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC)'s Zhuhai branch had supplied more than 117 million cubic meters of natural gas to Macao Special Administrative Region in 2022, a year-on-year growth of nearly 40 percent and a record high in the past three years.

As the only natural gas supplier to Macao, the company has supplied more than 1.1 billion cubic meters of gas to the region since 2008, providing stable and clean energy for economic and social development in the region.

The main pipeline operated and managed by the Zhuhai company connects the Liwan 3-1 gas field and the Shenhaiyihao ultra-deepwater gas field as well as some liquefied natural gas resources with the pipeline network in South China's Guangdong Province and Macao, providing gas to cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Hengqin-Macao pipeline is the only high-pressure natural gas transmission channel to Macao.

In January 2008, natural gas produced at CNOOC's Huizhou 21-1 gas field was delivered to Macao for the first time via the Hengqin-Macao gas pipeline, which ended the history of heavy oil-based power generation in the region and kicked off the era of clean energy. Since then, CNOOC has given full play to both self-produced natural gas and imported liquefied natural gas and built a pattern of multiple gas sources complementing each other and ensuring safe energy supply.
