Hainan Nuclear Power Plant's Annual Power Generation Exceeds 10 Billion kWh

Updated: December 20, 2022

The cumulative annual power generation of the Nos. 1 and 2 units of Hainan Nuclear Power Plant under China National Nuclear Corporation exceeded 10 billion kilowatt-hours for the first time on Dec 13, hitting a record high since the two units were put into operation. With the annual power generation capacity increasing for three consecutive years, the company now provides enough energy support for the construction of the free trade port in Hainan Province.

To date, the cumulative power generation of both units of the Phase I Project of Hainan Nuclear Power Plant has exceeded 60 billion kWh, which is equivalent to saving 18.72 million metric tons of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 48 million tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by 150,000 tons, or equivalent to planting 127,000 hectares of trees. With remarkable economic, social and environmental effects, the project plays a demonstration role in energy supply in Hainan.

The two nuclear power units have been in safe and stable operation for 1,400 days and achieved full marks in the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) composite index.
