A ceremony has been held to commence construction of the Jintang undersea tunnel, the world's longest undersea high-speed railway tunnel, in East China's Zhejiang Province.
A key section of the Ningbo-Zhoushan high-speed railway, the Jintang undersea tunnel is contracted by China Railway 11th Bureau Group Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited.
With a total length of about 16.18 kilometers, the tunnel has a maximum depth of 47 meters under the sea. It is the longest undersea shield tunnel that can bear the greatest water pressure in China.
The Ningbo-Zhoushan high-speed railway is about 76.4 kilometers long, starting from the Ningbo East Railway Station in the west and stretching eastward to Jintang, Cezi and Zhoushan islands. It is a key channel to realize the "one-hour high-speed railway traffic circle" in Zhejiang.
Once operational, the islands of Zhoushan will be connected with each other by high-speed railways, realizing full coverage of high-speed railways in the region, which is expected to play a key role in the integrated development of Ningbo and Zhoushan and the Yangtze River Delta region.
