Updated: November 28, 2022

The Ekiti State in Southwest Nigeria was linked with other regions by only highways and driving time between the state and the capital Abuja and Lagos, the economic center, was more than seven hours. Its location and traffic condition restricted local economic development.

Construction of the airport started in 2021 and was completed in October 2022. The project included construction of runways, terminals and supporting facilities.

The airport is expected to boost export of local agricultural products, serve demands of education and medical care institutes and drive development of tourism.

Its operation will also improve the transportation system of Ekiti State and is expected to become a new engine to drive local economic growth.
