Linking Jakarta, the capital city, and Bandung, the fourth-largest city in the country, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is a result of cooperation between China and Indonesia and an iconic project under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is also the first high-speed railway entirely built with Chinese technologies overseas, and the first of its kind in Southeast Asia with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
Once operational, the railway is expected to shorten travel time between the two cities to 40 minutes, which will greatly improve local traffic conditions and boost regional economic and social development.
