Asia's First Deepwater Jacket Put into Operation

Updated: October 09, 2022

Haiji One, Asia's first deepwater jacket independently designed and built by China National Offshore Oil Corporation, was put into operation on Oct 3.

It marked that China has developed a new oil and natural gas development mode based on a deepwater fixed platform and its capability of designing, building and installing an ultra-large jacket platform has reached world-class. This operation is of great significance in increasing output of offshore oil and gas and safeguarding national energy security.

The jacket platform is currently the most widely-used offshore oil and gas production facility in the world. It consists of three main parts, the jacket, the legs and the upper module.

Located in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, Haiji One has a height of 340.5 meters and a weight of more than 40,000 metric tons, both setting a record for China's individual offshore oil production platforms.

Several innovative technologies were also developed to achieve more advanced design, construction, operation and maintenance of the platform.

Five wells started operation on Oct 3, and they are expected to produce about 2,700 tons of oil daily in the primary operation stage.

Based on Haiji One, Lufeng 15-1 and Lufeng 22-1 oil fields with 14 production wells and three water injection wells are under development. Once operational, their peak daily output is expected to reach 5,000 tons, which will serve as a new driving force to the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
