Conson No 1, the world's first 100,000-metric ton large-scale smart fish-farming ship, started service just as the first large yellow croakers were sold in the market on Sept 1.
The vessel was jointly invested and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), Qingdao Conson Development (Group) Co. Ltd, Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology and the Fishery Machinery and Instrument Research Institute. Its construction started at CSSC's Qingdao Beihai Shipyard in East China's Shandong Province.
Conson No 1 was launched in January 2022 and was delivered for operation on May 20.

It has a displacement of 130,000 tons and features 15 breeding cabins, available for nearly 90,000 cubic meters of water. It is expected to be capable of producing 3,700 tons of high-quality fish and 650 tons of high-quality protein products annually.
It has traveled for more than 3,000 ocean miles (5,556 kilometers) and over 3 million fry have been put into the cabins for breeding since its delivery.
As the only 100,000-ton large-scale smart fish-farming ship to be completed and in service in the world, Conson No 1 is of great significance in promoting China's offshore aquaculture space and driving transformation and upgrading of the country’s fishery industry.
