Hongqimen Grand Bridge is 1,126 meters long and 43.2 meters wide and has a 520-meter main span. It is a double-tower, double-cable-plane semi-floating steel box girder cable-stayed bridge and its main towers have octagon sections and are topped with a kapok tree-shaped crown.

The west main tower is 176 meters tall. During construction, the engineering rail was optimized which shortened the construction period and improved engineering safety.

China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, was responsible for the project.

The Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway is a key traffic infrastructure in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Once operational, it will shorten the round trip between the Nansha District of Guangzhou and Zhongshan to 30 minutes.
