China Kicks off Construction of World's Largest Dual-Fuel Car Carrier

China recently kicked off construction of a dual-fuel car carrier that can transport 7,600 cars, the world's largest of its kind under construction.

Specially built for SAIC Anji Logistics Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor focusing on automotive logistics business, the carrier with complete proprietary intellectual property rights was developed and designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute and built by Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd., both subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.

The carrier is 199.9 meters long, 38 meters wide and 15.5 meters high and has a structural draft depth of 10.2 meters and a service speed of 19 knots. It is a new type of super Panamax car carrier meeting the latest international emission standards.

Once completed, the carrier is expected to be registered in the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and China Classification Society (CCS).

Based on its dual-fuel power system, the carrier will release highly-clean emissions and consume little fuel while being flexibly operated and easily maintained.
