Hoisting of the inner dome of the No. 2 generator unit at Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant in East China's Fujian Province was completed on Aug 23, setting a record of the shortest construction period for hoisting of a dome of that kind.
The hoisting marked that the generator unit has entered the installation phase and laid a solid foundation for the upcoming mass development of the Hualong One, China's third-generation nuclear power technology with full intellectual property rights.

According to China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), developer and operator of the plant, the inner dome of the No. 2 generator unit consists of five layers containing 153 ball valves and weighing more than 350 metric tons. It is built on the top of the island, and plays a key role in guaranteeing completeness and good sealing of the reactor. Its hoisting is a milestone of the construction of the Hualong One nuclear power project.
The first phase of the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant includes two generator units. It is China's first project launched under the Hualong One mass development plan.
The inner dome of the No. 1 generator unit was hoisted last October.

The Hualong One nuclear power technology is a result of CNNC's efforts to support China's high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology and implement the country's "dual carbon" goals of peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. It is also currently one of the most widely accepted third-generation nuclear power reactors in the global market.
The technology meets the highest international security standards. Currently there are four operational generator units in the world based on it. Its mass development is making stable progress.
According to CNNC, each Hualong One generator unit can generate more than 10 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually, meeting the annual production and domestic power demands of moderately developed countries with a population of one million. The power volume equals that produced by burning 3.12 million tons of standard coal annually, and thus eliminates carbon dioxide emissions by 8.16 million tons. Each unit has an effect equal to planting more than 70 million trees.
