The Wuhan East Railway Station in Central China's Hubei Province opened for operation on Aug 12. It is the fourth large-scale passenger railway station in Wuhan.
It is expected to boost coordinated development of the Wuhan Metropolitan Area and form a modern transportation system integrating railway, shipping, highway and air.

China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), participated in the construction of the station's east and west squares and the underground sections as well as other supporting facilities.
With a total building area of 163,000 square meters, the station includes underground functional zones like a transfer hall, parking lot and supporting commercial facilities and above-ground areas like bus stations, pick-up and drop-off points and a square for sightseeing.

The transfer hall of the station features convenient channels for various kinds of urban transportation modes such as subway, bus and taxi. The park and ride mode has been improved to promote public transportation as a priority.
Passengers can walk less than 200 meters to reach any kind of travel mode after leaving the station.
It's worth noting that eco-friendly construction and operation were highlighted at the station. For instance, the total green area amounts to more than 64,000 square meters on the east and west squares, which are planted with over 70,000 trees. Clean energy is used in all areas of the station and the underground sections are provided with air shafts. The roof is installed with solar power panels, which realize natural ventilating, lighting and low energy consumption.
The project also adopts the concept of sponge city construction which means rainwater is recycled both on the ground and the roof. What's more, there are 378 new energy vehicle parking spots in the parking lot.
The east and west squares of the station are equipped with four themed squares, and present characteristics of science and technology, finance, landscape and culture.
Leisure space covering 144,800 square meters is provided for the public, with 55 seats, 17 stainless steel seats and a 122-meter-long glass-roofed rain-proof corridor with a steel structure at the bus parking lot.
In addition to the newly-opened railway station, CSCEC has played a key role in the construction of several other transport infrastructures like Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, Wuhan Railway Station, the second and fourth ring roads, and some highways, contributing to improvements in the local multi-dimensional comprehensive transportation network.
