Built for Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC), the container carrier has the world's largest carrying capacity. Its delivery marked that China has entered a new era in the container carrier building industry.
Independently designed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), the container carrier was registered in the DNV classification society.
It is 399.99 meters long, more than 60 meters longer than the world's largest aircraft carrier, and 61.5 meters wide. Its deck covers an area equivalent to nearly four standard football pitches.
It's worth noting that the container carrier can carry more than 240,000 metric tons of cargo in 24,116 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers at one time, which is the largest capacity of its kind in the world at present.
