The Dali-Ruili railway is 330 kilometers long and 76.5 percent of it is bridges and tunnels. It will play a key role in improving the layout of China's medium and long-term railway network and development of the western regions.

Construction of the entire railway has been separated into the Dali-Baoshan and Baoshan-Ruili sections.

The Dali-Baoshan section is about 133 kilometers and has a designed speed of 140 kilometers per hour. It stretches through a geologically active fracture zone, making its engineering difficult. The Dazhushan, Xiuling, Dapoling and Shanyang tunnels, which are over 10-kilometer long respectively, were the most hard-to-build sections of the project.

Operation of the Dali-Baoshan section is expected to change the traffic and transport pattern in southwestern areas of Yunnan and boost regional economic and social development.

What's more, it will make Yunnan a key player in opening-up to Southeast and South Asian countries and promote exchanges and cooperation between them and China.

China Railway Group Limited is responsible for the project.
