Bridge with World's Tallest Rigid-Frame Pier Opens to Traffic

Updated: July 21, 2022

Jinyanghe Bridge in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, which features the world's tallest pier of a rigid-frame bridge, opened to traffic on June 30. Power Construction Corporation of China is responsible for the construction, consultation and management of the project.

A major traffic project of China's poverty-alleviation program, Jinyanghe Bridge is a key section of the highway renovation project between Jinyang County in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and the Tongyang Bridge.

The 757.7-meter bridge is built in the valley of the Jinyang River and has nine piers. The Nos 5, 6 and 7 piers have outstanding seismic resistance and the No. 6 main pier, together with the 14-meter upper girder, has a height of 210 meters, equaling to that of a 70-storey building.

As a major passage connecting the new and old urban areas of Jinyang, the bridge is expected to improve travel conditions in affected areas, taking just several minutes to travel between the two areas and benefiting more than 120,000 local residents.

In addition, it will also play a role in rural vitalization and economic development.
