Asia's Largest Railway Hub Starts Operation

Updated: June 22, 2022

The Beijing Fengtai Railway Station, the largest railway hub in Asia, went into operation on June 20 after renovation. It is now a new landmark in Beijing, capital of China, and is expected to be a support for coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Based on the original Fengtai Station, the newly-operable large-scale railway station is the first of its kind and features a double-layer structure.

In addition, it adopts a three-dimensional transportation operation mode with the high-speed railway on the top floor, regular-speed trains operate on the ground floor and an underground subway line.

The station has a construction area of nearly 400,000 square meters, 1.2 times that of the Beijing South Railway Station and twice as large as Forbidden City, making it the most sizeable railway hub in Asia.

China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) participated in the station's construction.

Following the building concept of "high-quality station and smart railway", CRCC launched the first smart steel processing and distribution center in the Beijing construction market and introduced nearly 10 kinds of advanced equipment such as an integrated steel cage making machine, intending to realize intelligent, informatized and green steel processing. The equipment also helped improve reliability and security of the construction.

The Beijing Fengtai Railway Station will be the departure station of several high-speed railways including those running between Beijing and Guangzhou and Beijing-Hong Kong with connections to Taiwan, as well as the Fengtai-Shacheng, Beijing-Yuanping, Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Kowloon regular-speed railways and several lines to the suburbs of Beijing.

The station is also linked with the Beijing Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station and Beijing South Railway Station, which is expected to optimize the city's transportation structure and improve its comprehensive transportation system to facilitate people's travel and boost social and economic development.

What's more, the Beijing Fengtai Railway Station will also contribute to construction of the Xiongan New Area as it is a critical part of the nation's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network.
