"Juli Yihao", China's largest-diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM), was recently put into operation in construction of the Jiangyin Jingjiang Yangtze River Tunnel in East China's Jiangsu Province.
The TBM is the most advanced and intelligentized machine of its kind in the country and was equipped with a 16.09-meter diameter, 514-metric-ton cutter for the project.

Connecting to Jingjiang in the north and Jiangyin in the south, the Jiangyin Jingjiang Yangtze River Tunnel will run between the Jiangyin and Taizhou Yangtze River bridges.
With a total length of about 11.8 kilometers, the six-lane tunnel has a river-crossing section of about 6.4 kilometers and a designed speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
With its super-large-diameter, the largest in the country, it will be able to resist water pressure up to 1.2 megapascals.
CCCC Tunnel Engineering Company Limited, a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), is responsible for construction of the A2 section, which includes a 4,937-meter left line shield tunneling section and a 789-meter main line excavation section.
Once operational, the tunnel is expected to help relieve traffic pressure of the Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge and enhance cross-river capacity, which will contribute to implementing the development strategy of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, boosting high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, and accelerating construction of the Yangtze River city cluster and cross-river integration development.
