A top legislator suggested accelerating construction of electric vehicle charging facilities in residential areas to support use of private electric vehicles in China.
Wu Xiang, deputy to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), also deputy chief of the 220kV Leizhou inspection and maintenance center of China Southern Power Grid's Zhanjiang power grid company in South China's Guangdong Province, said that new energy vehicles are now rapidly developing in China and charging piles play a key role in their development. However, the insufficiency of charging piles in residential areas has impacted their use to some extent.

She expressed her hope that the government will offer preferential policies that guide construction of charging facilities in neighborhoods and encourage departments of planning, housing and urban-rural development, development and reform, transportation, power supply and fire-control to support the work.
Wu said that a united approach involving various parties such as charging service providers, property management firms and users should be undertaken and security management and technical service capacity should be covered in the access system of charging service providers.
