Widest Yellow River Bridge Opens to Traffic

The Fenghuang Yellow River Bridge in Jinan, East China's Shandong Province, opened to traffic on Jan 18, 2022.

It is a three-tower self-anchored suspension bridge with the largest span of its kind in the world. It is also the 15th cross-Yellow River passage in Jinan.

The 3,788-meter long and 61.7-meter wide bridge has a 1,332-meter main bridge and both main spans are as long as 428 meters. It is the widest of the cross-Yellow River bridges.

Its eight-lane highway has a designed speed of 60 kilometers per hour and was built to the highest highway construction standards in China.

Once operational, the bridge is expected to improve transportation network planning in Jinan and promote new and old dynamic conversion in affected area.

It will also contribute to urban growth and boost regional economic development.

CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company Ltd., a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), was responsible for the project.
