The 1,000-kilovolt Nanchang-Changsha ultra-high voltage (UHV) alternating current (AC) power transmission project was put into operation on Dec 26.
Built by State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid), the project starts from Nanchang in East China's Jiangxi Province and ends in Changsha in Central China's Hunan Province.

With a total investment of 10.2 billion yuan ($1.6 billion), the project included construction of two 1,000-kV transformer substations and two 341-kilometer lines. It will increase power supply capacity of Hunan and Jiangxi to more than 3.5 million kilowatts and improve systematic security and stability.

Once operational the project is expected to relieve power shortages and serve economic development of the two regions as well as contribute to the high-quality development of Central China.
