Lhasa- Nyingchi railway
The Lhasa- Nyingchi railway in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, China's first plateau electrified railway, opened for service on June 25, 2021.
Built by China Railway Group Limited (CREC) and China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), more than 90 percent of the 435.48-kilometer railway is built at altitudes of 3,000 meters and above. The railway also stretches across the Yarlung Zangbo River 16 times.
It's worth noting that trains operating on the railway are the Fuxing bullet trains independently developed by CRRC Corporation Limited. They were specially designed for high-altitude areas and have a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Operation of such trains marked the full deployment of Fuxing trains in 31 regions in China.
A key section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, the Lhasa-Nyingchi railway links the Lhasa-Shigatse and Qinghai-Tibet railways. It is expected to play a role in deepening connectivity between Tibet and other regions and in boosting rural vitalization.
