New discovery at Tarim Basin

A reserve area containing an estimated 1 billion metric tons of petroleum was discovered in the Tarim Oilfield of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on June 18. It was the largest discovery of oil in the Tarim Basin for the past 10 years.

The Tarim Basin is the largest oil and gas-bearing basin in China, and contains respectively 83.2 and 63.9 percent of the country's oil and gas resources buried over 6,000 meters underground. At present, it is the country's largest ultra-deep oil and gas production base.
