China's First Self-Developed Building Component Assembly Robot Launched

Updated: August 18, 2021

China's first building component assembly robot rolled off the production line at China Railway Science & Industry Group Corp (CRSIC)'s Nantong manufacturing base in East China's Jiangsu Province on Aug 2.

Jointly developed by CRSIC and China Railway Construction Engineering Group, both subsidiaries of China Railway Group Limited, the robot is 80 meters long and weighs 460 metric tons. It can be used to erect beams as heavy as 120 tons.

The robot is both intelligent and flexible as it is installed with 72 sensors and 50 cameras that form a backbone network. The eight "legs" made of 32 tires enable the robot to move horizontally and longitudinally, giving its movement a spider-like quality.

According to a researcher at CRSIC, the robot is equipped with the Beidou differential positioning correction system and variable-frequency regulating speed technology, which enables precision engineering and stable operation.

The robot is expected to contribute to the construction of Subway Line 11 in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province.
