China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), together with the local government, is getting down to construction of a nuclear power-based heating demonstration project at Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in East China's Zhejiang Province.
It is the first nuclear power-based heating project to be built by CNNC and is expected to be a major force in helping Zhejiang peak carbon dioxide emissions and achieve carbon neutrality ahead of schedule.
With mature nuclear energy heating technology, the project has broad market prospects and huge development potential.
It will make full use of the residual heat of generator units at the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in winter to provide residents in Haiyan county with safe and zero-carbon nuclear power heat.
The project is scheduled to be built in three phases. The recently started section should be completed within this year. At that stage, a residential zone covering nearly 500,000 square meters in the region will benefit from the project.
The Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant tops the number of nuclear power generator units and nuclear reactor types in China. CNNC will take advantage of its 30-year experience in nuclear power project construction, operation and management to provide technological, engineering and resource support for the heating project.
