Lhasa Gonggar Airport's T3 terminal in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region officially opened for service on Aug 7 after more than three years of construction.
A key project in Tibet during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), it is the highest airport of a capital city in China and one of the largest high-altitude airports in the world.
With a building area of 88,000 square meters, the T3 terminal features four check-in islands, 40 check-in counters, 22 security checkpoints and 20 boarding gates.
According to the airport, all flights will be transferred to the new terminal from Aug 9.
With the T3 terminal operational, the airport is expected to be able to handle 9 million visits and 80,000 tons of freight by 2025, which will improve Lhasa's role as an integral traffic hub.
China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, contributed to the construction work.
