Construction of the Linglong One, a multi-purpose small modular reactor (SMR) demonstration project, was launched at Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant in South China's Hainan Province on July 13.
The project is the first of its kind to start construction in the world and marks a new page for China's SMR technology taking lead in the field.
The China National Nuclear Corporation is responsible for the project.
