The Xi'an Happiness Forest Belt in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, China's largest of its kind, recently opened to the public.
Covering 1,134 mu (75.6 hectares), the belt has been planted with more than 40,000 trees and has a total green area of 700,000 square meters (70 hectares). It is expected to be an ecological shelter zone and a natural oxygen bar to improve the environment of eastern Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi Province.
Dubbed a "city oasis on the Silk Road", the forest belt was funded and built by China State Construction Silkroad Construction Investment Group Co., Ltd. and will also be operated by the company.
The forest belt sits in the core area of the new center project in the eastern part of the city.
With a total investment of more than 24 billion yuan ($3.7 billion), the project covers about 1,843 mu (122.9 hectares) and is designed to stretch about 5.85 kilometers from south to north .
It includes landscape greening, underground space, municipal service paths and metro lines.
