The ±800-kilovolt ultra high voltage (UHV) direct current (DC) transmission project linking Yazhong in Southwest China's Sichuan Province and Poyang Lake in East China's Jiangxi Province went into operation on June 21.

A major player of China's west-to-east power transmission project, the 1,696-kilometer power line passes Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces and has a designed power transmission capacity of 36 billion kilowatt-hours.
