The Qinghai-Henan ultra-high voltage (UHV) direct current (DC) power transmission project had transmitted 10 billion kWh of clean power to Central China by April 16.
Starting from the Hainan Tibet Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province and terminating at Zhumadian in Henan Province, the 1,563-kilometer line also passes Gansu and Shaanxi provinces. It is the world's first long-distance clean energy transmission project.
With a total investment of 22.3 billion yuan ($3.44 billion), the project went into operation on Dec 30, 2020.
When operating at full steam, the project is expected to transmit 40 billion kWh of clean power annually from Qinghai, equaling that produced by burning 18 million tonnes of raw coal and eliminating 29.6 million tons of carbon dioxide.
