A section of the Shanghai-Chengdu high-speed railway was relocated on April 27 to make way for a water diversion project between the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers.
According to Zhang Xinyi, executive deputy-manager of the project, the water diversion project goes under the Shanghai-Chengdu high-speed railway. To make shipping possible, the railway had to be moved.

China's first project of its kind included reconstruction of 4,540 meters of railway.
More than 1,000 builders at China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group, a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited, participated in the reconstruction.
The relocation laid the foundation for future construction of the water diversion project, which is expected to serve economic and social development in affected areas.
