CNOOC Finds Massive Gas Field in Shanxi

Updated: March 30, 2021

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) recently announced that the Linxing natural gas field in Shanxi Province has a proved reserve of more than 101 billion cubic meters.

Located in Lyuliang mountains in Shanxi, the field has complicated geological structure and activities, thus was at first believed to have had a slim chance to become a large-scale gas field.

During exploration, eight core technologies and three supporting skills were developed, which formed a highly-efficient well drilling mode suitable for development of the tight gas reservoir in the field.

At present, the company has excavated 526 wells there and built 11 depots. Daily natural gas output reached more than 5 million cubic meters in 2020 and to date the field has produced a total of nearly 1.84 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
