China's First Offshore 'Green Oil Field' Goes into Operation

Updated: March 29, 2021

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on March 15 that the Caofeidian 6-4 oilfield in North China's Hebei Province recently started production.

Based on green and low carbon management, the project explored a new construction mode of "green oilfield" for the first time in China.

A large number of domestically-made high-quality equipment and innovative environmentally-protective devices were used to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.

For example, a recycled water gathering tank was used in the project. It was the first time such a device had been deployed in an offshore oilfield. The tank is intended to recycle domestic waste water, with no harmful emissions.

Located in the central west of the Bohai Sea, the oilfield is about 116 kilometers from Tianjin municipality and has an average water depth of about 20 meters.

The project included construction of 30 production wells and is estimated to have an output of 750,000 cubic meters by 2023.

It is expected to improve China's offshore oil and natural gas production and storage, and contribute to the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and construction of the Xiongan New Area.

What's more, it will also play a role in building the Bohai oilfield into China's largest crude oil production base.
