Wu Xiang: Promoting Offshore Wind Power Storage

Updated: March 10, 2021

Offshore wind power will be a crucial clean energy to reach the goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality.

Wu Xiang, NPC deputy and deputy chief of the 220kV Leizhou inspection and maintenance center of China Southern Power Grid's Zhanjiang power grid company in South China's Guangdong Province, suggested promoting construction of energy storage facilities in the offshore wind power industry at this year's two sessions.

She mentioned that several national and local documents about construction of a green, low-carbon, cyclic developed economic system have been issued in recent years, encouraging building of new energy storage facilities.

Research on applications of storage facilities in the offshore wind power field is still underway.

From the aspect of technology, energy storage has been widely used in the inland wind power and solar power industries and there were models of its usage in offshore wind power.

China has taken the lead in energy storage equipment manufacturing with decreasing costs. "It's time to promote energy storage facilities in the offshore wind power industry," Wu said.

She also suggested that relevant national departments should strengthen policy support and make standards to ensure rapid and orderly development of China's offshore wind power industry and effective energy transformation.
