101 Billion-Cu M Inland Gas Field Proved in Shanxi

Updated: March 04, 2021

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Feb 28, 2021, that its recently discovered Linxing natural gas field in Shanxi Province has a proved reserve of more than 101 billion cubic meters.

The field is expected to contribute to clean energy supply to North China and to play a role in the development campaign of the western regions in the new era and construction of Xiongan New Area.

Located in Lyuliang in Shanxi, the field is at the east-edge of the Ordos basin.

With complicated geological structure and activities, the region was at first believed to have had a slim chance to form a large-scale gas field.

CNOOC developed the first high production gas field in the region in 2013 after great efforts in technology.

At present, the company has excavated 526 wells in the field and built 11 depots. Daily natural gas output reached more than 5 million cubic meters in 2020 and so far, the field has produced a total of nearly 1.84 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

The company plans to build the area into a gas field with an annual output of 2.7 billion cubic meters. The field will play a role in local economic and social development and is anticipated to start providing natural gas directly to Xiongan New Area this July.
