Renovated Highway in Tibet to Boost Coordinated Development

Updated: February 22, 2021

The renovated section of the National Highway No. 318 in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region linking Lhasa and Shigatse Airport recently opened for trial operation.

The newly operated 40-kilometer four-lane section in Lhasa has a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

CCCC First Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), was responsible for construction of roadbeds, road surfaces, tunnels and greening of a part of the section.

A major project of Tibet's 13th Five-Year Plan in the aspect of the highway transport, the highway is expected to contribute to transport between Lhasa, Shigatse and Ngari prefecture and to optimize local highway networks and boost coordinated development of affected areas.
