Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel Project Makes Key Progress

Updated: February 03, 2021

Construction of the main passage of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Main Channel Project in East China's Zhejiang Province was completed on Jan 24, 2021.

The project will result in a major land transport channel and be a key part of the cross-sea passage linking Shanghai, Zhoushan and Ningbo.

With four lanes and a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour, the channel is expected to link five islands and go through five shipping lanes.

The Yushan and Fuchimen bridges of the project opened to traffic in 2018 and 2019. The Zhoudai Bridge, a 28-kilometer steel box girder double-plane cable-stayed bridge with three towers, is still under construction.

Once operable, the channel will connect to the Ningbo-Zhoushan highway, increasing the length of the Zhoushan's land-sea connecting project to 83 kilometers. It will span eight islands with ten bridges.

What's more, the project is scheduled to link with Shanghai in the north according to the long-term plan. It will then play roles in improving the regional traffic network, supporting national industrial distribution and boosting integration of the Yangtze River Delta region.

Several subsidiaries of China Communications Construction Company Limited participated in the project.
