The Shachengwan cross-sea highway in Southeast China's Fujian Province opened to traffic on Jan 18, 2021, and is expected to contribute to economic cooperation between the Western Taiwan-Straits Economic Zone and the Yangtze River Delta region.
A key section of the Ningbo-Dongguan Highway linking East China's Zhejiang and South China's Guangdong provinces, the 20.19-kilometer Shachengwan cross-sea highway has six lanes and a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
In addition to linking northeast Fujian and the Yangtze River Delta region, the highway is also expected to improve transport capacity of the North-to-South highways, becoming a main passage.
Several subsidiaries of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited participated in the project.
In order to protect the environment in affected areas, contractors of the highway built China's first mud treatment plant for mountain highways which is capable of separating solid and liquid matters with highly-efficient and energy conserving methods. The clean water will be used for greening and watering.
