A newly-opened smart library in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou Province is offering an improved reading experience to the public.
Featured a 17-meter high smart three-dimensional book stack and equipped with smart robots and an internet of things-based control system, the library is the first of its kind in the region.
Covering nearly 80,000 square meters, the library has 10 stories, three beneath and seven above the ground.
With capacity to hold 4 million books, the library is available for 20,000 visits daily and can provide about 3,500 seats.
The building information model and smart construction site management platform were adopted and several difficulties in accurate installation, aerial operation and welding were conquered during construction.
3D printing technology was also used in the construction, which turned virtual digital models into real ones. It is useful experience for highly-efficient and safe construction of future large cultural facilities integral to urban areas.
China Railway 17th Bureau Group City Construction Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, was the responsible builder.
