UHV flexible DC power transmission project from Wudongde to Guangxi, Guangdong
The multi-terminal ultra high voltage (UHV) flexible direct current (DC) project transmitting power from the Wudongde hydropower station in Yunnan to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province went into operation on Dec 27, six months ahead of schedule.
A key role of China's West-to-East Power Transmission Project, the project is the world's first UHV flexible DC project.
Starting from the Wudongde Hydropower Station, the power line winds 1,452 kilometers through mountains and across rivers in Guangxi and Guangdong.
The project is expected to transmit 33 billion kWh of power annually and to improve hydropower utilization in Yunnan. It will contribute to energy conservation and emission reduction and air pollution control as well as supply power for economic development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
It was invested and built by China South Power Grid.
