China's Longest Underground Line Opens for Service

Subway Line 6 in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province, opened for service on Dec 18.

Primarily designed by China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, it is the longest subway line with the most stops to open on a single day in China.

Starting from the Wangcong Temple Station in Pidu district and terminating at the Lanjiagou Station in Shuangliu district, the 68.77-kilometer line has 56 stations and winds through seven administrative districts in Chengdu.

Trains with the largest passenger capacity are used on the line. Each of them can transport as many as 3,456 passengers.

Another four subway lines also went into operation on the same day, making Chengdu the first city in China to open five subway lines simultaneously.

The total operation length of the new lines is more than 500 kilometers.
